Two by-elections for Lester B. Pearson council this fall

Vice-chair resigns suddenly as the school year is starting

A last-minute resignation by a commissioner of the Lester B. Pearson School Board just as the new school year was getting under way means the board will now be holding two by-elections this fall.
Sylvia Di Donato, vice-chair of the council of commissioners, handed in her resignation this week, citing “personal reasons” for her departure.
Di Donato had represented Ward 12 (Pierrefonds/Ile Bizard) since the board was created in 1998. She had been vice-chair since 2003.
There was already a vacant spot on the council due to the departure of commissioner Ralph Tietjan, who resigned in March to move to Vancouver. He represented Ward 15 (Beaconsfield).
Both by-elections will take place on Oct. 26. The nomination period will open Sept. 16 and close on Sept. 21. Information on the by-elections is available on the board’s web site at www.lbpsb.qc.ca or by calling Don Taylor at the LBPSB Elections Office, 514-422-3000.
