Botanical detectives solve case

posted by Terry OShaughnessy at 12h27

The case of my mysterious pink flowers has been solved, and the verdict is: Jewelweed. The latin for it turns out to be: impatiens glandulifera glandular, while "Himalayan Impatiens" and "Touch-Me-Not" also figure in the picture as common names for this wild, orchid-like flower that is pleasing my bees no end this weekend.

Many thanks to "drouse" for the initial investigation, and "elsie treize" for solving the case with the 'smoking gun' photograph that shows the exact image of the flowers currently growing wild in my yard--with a bee at work inside every bloom even as we speak. Botanical blogging ("blogtanical"??) detective work was never made so easy.
