Last week’s blustery weather could be to blame for a high number of accidents on off-island roads west of Montreal.
From Jan. 25 to 31, the Sûreté du Québec reported a total of 33 road accidents in the area, 13 of which involved injuries. There were no fatalities.
SQ Sgt. Bruno Beaulieu said the colder weather, and especially last Thursday’s squalls, likely contributed to the high number of accidents.
There were nine accidents on Highway 40, two on Highway 20, seven in Vaudreuil-Dorion, three in Rigaud, three in Pincourt, two each in Île Perrot and Les Coteaux and one each in St. Lazare, St. Polycarpe, St. Clet, Notre Dame de l’Île Perrot and Tres St. Rédempteur.
Beaulieu did not have exact figures for the average number of accidents weekly on off-island roads, but said there was no doubt of an increase last week.
