Armed man gives up after homes in Roxboro are evacuated

Police finally convince him to give up

Several houses in Roxboro were evacuated yesterday morning after a man wielding firearms barricaded himself inside his home shortly after midnight.

Montreal police Constable Raphäel Bergeron said negotiators from the police’s major crimes squad took several hours to convince the man to give himself up, which he finally did at around 8:30 a.m.

The man has been arrested and will undergo psychiatric evaluation, possibly facing charges relating to his possession and use of firearms. Police could not say Saturday what motive sparked the incident.
