Lindsay Place High School String Ensemble and Volunteer West Island hosted A Musical Afternoon at the Seniors’ Café.
Strains of Vivaldi rendered by the resonant tones of violins, violas, cellos and bass viols filled the parish hall at the Ste. Anne de Bellevue headquarters of Volunteer West Island as 21 musicians from the Lindsay Place High School String Ensemble entertained their rapt audience. Students from Grades 8 and 9, under the direction of Keri Keiser, played selections of Meyer, Siennicki and Vivaldi during a Musical Afternoon Social at the Seniors’ Café.
After the concert, students served refreshments they had made and socialized with the members of the audience.
This musical event was organized by LPHS community office co-ordinator Joan Baker in conjunction with Volunteer West Island, the only volunteer recruitment organization in the West Island.
The popular Seniors’ Café is one of several on-site, volunteer-driven programs run by Volunteer West Island to break the isolation seniors often face. Organized and run by Margo Donovan and a cadre of other dedicated volunteers, the Seniors’ Café is a well-attended, monthly gathering that offers West Island seniors an opportunity to connect with members of the community and enjoy refreshments, entertainment and conversation in a friendly relaxed atmosphere. The Lindsay Place musicians provided a special treat. Encores welcome!
