Needy offered school supplies

Local aid organizations are gearing up for back to school by supplying families in need with school supplies. And one organization is still looking for volunteers to help out with distribution.
The West Island Mission needs a few more helpers for this Saturday when they will be handing out back-to-school baskets to recipients who have already been contacted.
“With the high cost of food and fuel and rent taking up a large portion of a family’s income, more and more people are finding it difficult to make ends meet,” said Marlene Gallant of the West Island Mission.
Her group helps 400 families.
“We have a list of around 300 children who need supplies,” Gallant said.
Used clothing and food baskets with fresh fruit and dairy products will also be handed out.
Volunteers are needed to help sort clothing and hand out school supplies on Saturday.
If you are available to help out at their distribution centre at the Westview Bible Church in Pierrefonds, call 514-912-6813.

Supplies available in Cloverdale: Montreal Youth Unlimited, serving the Cloverdale area in Pierrefonds, will be handing out backpacks and gift certificates for school supplies to eligible students Aug. 27.
The organization, which supplies breakfast and lunch programs, homework assistance and mentoring to the 1,750 school age children in Cloverdale, raises money through corporate donations, golf tournaments and individual gifts.
More than 150 elementary and high school packages will be handed out on a first-come-first-served basis between 6 and 8 p.m. at the Youth Unlimited Centre at 9572 Gouin Blvd. W.
Recipients must provide proof of address in the Cloverdale area to receive a back-to-school package.
