The John Abbott Lady Islanders will play a rare afternoon hockey game this Saturday at Macdonald College Arena in Ste. Anne de Bellevue.
In an effort to build community support for the JAC women’s hockey program and promote girls hockey in the West Island, Abbott head coach Bill Campbell has extended an invitation to local players to come cheer on the Lady Isles, who will host Limoilou from Quebec City.
The puck drops at 2:10 p.m.
“I would like to invite all the girls minor hockey teams to our home game,” Campbell said.
Minor hockey players wearing their team jerseys will be admitted for free.
The Lady Isles usually play their home games on Friday night at 8:10 p.m, a relatively late hour for youngsters wishing to catch the province’s top CEGEP hockey players in action.
What sort of home crowd do the Lady Isles normally attract?
“Standing room only,” joked Campbell. “No. It’s hard to say, about 50 people.”
Friday night home games are a tough time to attract CEGEP students, he said.
“It’s Friday night between 8 and 10 p.m. I think they have other things to do at that time.”
The Lady Isles are off to a 3-7 start this season, after dropping a 3-2 decision to Limoilou on Saturday.
